Project Overview: This homeowner needed an updated and larger kitchen
with more storage space. She also wanted to have a larger casual
eating area in close proximity to the kitchen. Lastly, with two
young sons, she wanted to have a larger informal family room and
study near the kitchen so that they didn’t always have to
go to the basement to play or to their rooms to do homework. She
also needed a mudroom to help with the transition from the garage
to the living area. Making use of the space below the new addition
was desirable to make room for a pool table. Lastly, central in
the homeowner’s mind was that she didn’t want the
addition to look like an “addition”, inside or out.
Bowers Design Build redesigned the kitchen making it more functional.
We moved the laundry closet out of the kitchen and replaced it
with a pantry to provide more storage. We then created a new transitional
space between the kitchen and the garage. This new space accommodates
a mudroom/laundry area, an extra refrigerator and more shelf storage
and cubbies for bulk items and sports equipment.
We then added a new breakfast room and family room. The former
family room was converted to the study and part of the mudroom.

To make the project seem even more seamless with the existing house,
we removed the wall in the central hall and moved it over several
feet and relocated the hall powder room. This made the foyer seem
more spacious and aided in the transition from the foyer to the
new living space.
Multiple ceiling heights, angled walls, and lots of windows make
this project beautiful. The client is very happy and is pleased
when guests just can’t believe that her old house is now
totally transformed.
