Can't Tell Where the Old House Ends and the New House Begins!
1. Our client wanted a unique front door entry-way that would blend in with the roof line and not look like “a sore thumb type of thing”. Our solution: We designed a portico type entry-way that had a roof line matching the new roof pitch. Then, we added columns specially designed by our lead-carpenter/wood worker, a beaded board curved ceiling feature, and up lighting hidden in the trim around the beaded board for a warm lighting effect. We then extended the column style to the new casement around the light pole in the yard to create a coordinated design and eye pleasing entry. 2. Tired of their cars being covered with leaves and pollen from their beautiful tree filled yard, our clients wanted a second garage bay for their car. Our solution: We added the second garage bay as well as a new roof line over both the existing garage bay and the new garage bay, to make it appear that the second space had always been there and was not an add on.
3. Our clients needed more casual space for entertaining, but also needed guest quarters for elderly relatives who would be unable to use stairs. Our solution was to add a family room to the first floor rear of the house that would be very open and light with lots of windows for every day entertaining. Then, by adding pocket doors on the entry-ways that can be closed making the room very private, and a sleeper sofa, we created a guest room for elderly guest visits. A nearby space is roughed in for a future bathroom. This two-for-one option was an effective and creative utilization of space. Our lead carpenter also designed and built a built-in entertainment center in this room to house the client’s new state of the art entertainment system.
5. Our client wanted a large formal dining room for those big family get-togethers. Our solution: We created a dining room space large enough for those big family meals, yet also allowed a very natural transition from the newly enlarged living room, new family room and kitchen. Since our homeowners do a lot of entertaining, inventing well thought through space for party traffic patterns was important. A coffee bar between the living room and dining room makes the knee wall and column affect a very functional space. 6. Our client had a significant amount of family heirlooms in the form of china, crystal and silver and had no functional storage space for them. They wanted them to be protected from accidental breakage and theft, yet in a space that they could be easily accessible. Our solutions: We designed a built in china closet behind the wall off the dining room. We installed a special locking mechanism to an all but invisible door and a special customized security system that would monitor any unauthorized entry.
7. Lastly, our clients needed a new master bedroom, the result of converting their old bedroom into a needed third bedroom for their youngest child. Our solution was to add another level, seamlessly, to the house, utilizing the new space to create a master bedroom, two walk-in closets, a private sitting area and master bath. A special hide-a-way door leads to extra storage space in the new attic. This solution created the optimal in privacy, comfort and functionality for our homeowners. We hope you’ve enjoyed our story of client’s needs and our solutions. We thoroughly enjoyed the project and are glad to have added this family to our list of satisfied customers! |
