Separating the Home Based Business from the Home: An Arlington Remodel and Addition

This home addition was designed and built to allow space for a larger Great Room with a Pilates studio underneath and a new screened porch. The kitchen was also renovated and several existing rooms re-purposed.

Here’s what we did to meet the client’s needs:

• Larger family room – New great room addition was added to the rear of the home.
• Updated and more modern kitchen – The kitchen was completed renovated using updated colors, styles, appliances and finishes.
• Better home office space for husband and wife and kids – Turned the unused living room into a library/home office for the husband and created a home office for the Pilates trainer wife in her new basement studio. The kids have a new study space in the old, repurposed family room.
• Better use of outdoor living space – Removed the old deck and added a screened porch for bug free living.
• New Pilates studio with an exterior door – Added a new Pilates studio under the new Family Room addition. Also, a new area way to the side of the home was added so that clients could enter the studio without going through the personal house space.
• Larger pantry – More storage space was added to the kitchen area. The addition allowed for us to add that space without taking away from the needed space in the kitchen and eating area.
• Island casual dining – Removed the in-kitchen eating area and replaced it with an eating island with space to accommodate the four family members.
• Space for the kids to watch TV or play video games without disrupting parents – Converted the existing basement/Pilates studio into.
• Private bath for Pilates clients – Added a powder room to the new Pilates studio.

The new space is truly beautiful, modern and aesthetically pleasing. There is a lot more natural light in the space and an improved lighting plan accentuates the natural light.

The clients are very pleased with the new spaces. The home’s new circulation flows well and the new spaces provide the functionality the client wanted. The new modern look is exactly what the client wanted to achieve. The project has accentuated their professional and personal lives in a beautiful way.
