2018 Washington Metro DC Chapter Contractor of the Year (CotY) Award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) for Bathroom Renovations
We all want our house guests to be comfortable, but for elderly house guests, safety increases in importance. This Guest Bath was renovated to accommodate older guests that visit for an extended period. The bath was en-suite with the guest room, but it had a low bathtub that presented a physical challenge for the homeowner’s older guests. So, we performed a total bath renovation to update the space and in doing so, removed the tub and installed a large walk-in shower for easy, safe access.
The former en-suite, hall bathroom was fairly attractive and functional. But, when the homeowner’s parents started to experience physical challenges getting in and out of the low bathtub, safety became an issue.
The new bathroom is renewed with updated flooring, cabinets, shower, colors and fixtures. The new low threshold walk-in-shower is much safer than the former low bathtub. We also added new sound proofing in the bathroom wall between the bath and the guest room.
Before: A double bowl vanity and builder grade cabinets.
After: cabinets with simple beaded inset doors provide all the space for guests’ every day use. Top is Cambria Fairbourne. Flooring is 12″ x 24″ Imola Vein tile. Two piece crown molding and a Flora 5-Light Candle-Style Chandelier finish the space.
Before: low tub was a physical challenge for elderly guests.
After: low threshold shower is much safer. The adjustable shower spray bar doubles as a grab bar. Shower floor is 2 X 2 matte tile to help prevent slipping. Field and decorative tile is 4 X 10 aqua tile from Conestoga.
Before bathroom had a built-in linen closet for storage.
After: a new linen cabinet was designed and built especially for this space. The homeowner wanted the linen storage to look like a piece of furniture. We design and built this cabinet and painted it a shade of aqua to compliment the shower tile.

The finished product is an updated bathroom that is as functional and safe as it is beautiful.
