Virginia Business Magazine has named Bowers Design Build as one of the 2025 Best Places to Work in Virginia. The awards are held in partnership with Best Companies Group.

Best Places to Work in Virginia identifies, recognizes and honors the best places of employment in Virginia in three categories: small employer (15-99 employees), medium employer (100-249) and large employer (250 or more). To be considered, companies must be a publicly or privately held business; be a for-profit or not-for-profit business or government entity; have a facility in the state of Virginia; have at least 15 full- or part-time employees working in Virginia; and be in business a minimum of one year.

Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process and also analyzed the data and used their expertise to determine the final rankings.

There were two parts used to determine the rankings. The first consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices and demographics, worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience, which consisted of 75% of the total. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking.

Business technology and business software are offering new ways for remodelers and home improvement professionals to improve client experience and customer satisfaction. In what ways are you using software or technology to improve client experience?:

We use Builder Trend for our client relationship management tool. It is our signature platform used by all 26 employees (designers and construction experts) in our niche firm to manage an exception client experience.

Our signature design software is REVIT. REVIT is the most robust 3D design tool that helps clients envision their renovated home inside and outside. REVIT also allows us to perform sun studies to demonstrate to client the sun orientation for their home and make more sound decisions.

Quick Books, PlanSwift and Microsoft 365 Suite, round out our software tool box for a seamless client experience.

Rising costs for labor and building materials along with higher inflation on everything else is forcing remodelers and home pros to raise prices dramatically. Tell us about the most effective ways you are passing along these rising prices to your clients?:

Clients recognize that costs are rising, but education on cost/benefit is the key in helping clients manage their budget. The value add to our design/build business model is that we present costs at every step of design so that clients can make decisions on the best designs to maximize their budget, how they want to invest their money and which features will bring them the most utilization. These transparent, detailed conversations about cost as it relates to the specific design, scope and specifications puts clients in the driver seat to make smart decision that are right for them.

Supply shortages have required you to ask clients to go back and pick another finish or building material. What are your tips for handing these product trade-off conversations?:

Clients are fully aware of the pandemic induced supply chain issues, not only in our industry, but in every aspect of their day to day lives. Our product selection process is completed during the design phase of the process, well before construction. We have built in the long lead times into our schedule so that we avoid having to ask clients to pick another product to the greatest extent possible. We never ask a client to accept a “lesser than” product. If anything, we’ll buy the available product and install it so that client can have the functionality they need and then come back and replace it with the one they really wanted when it is available. Our clients have appreciated our above and beyond efforts to secure the products they really need or want.

The awards program and regional survey was created by Arlington Magazine and Best Companies Group to identify, recognize and honor the best places to work in Arlington, McLean and Falls Church, Virginia. GuildQuality’s 2021 Guildmaster Award Honors Bowers Design Build

Bowers Design Build of McLean, Virginia, received a 2021 Guildmaster with Highest Distinction Award from GuildQuality for demonstrating exceptional customer service within the residential construction industry.

Since 2005, GuildQuality, an Atlanta-based third-party customer satisfaction surveying company, has powered the Guildmaster Award to recognize and celebrate home building, remodeling, and contracting professionals demonstrating the highest level of customer service within the U.S. and Canada.

Out of nearly 2,000 eligible applicants, Bowers Design Build is one of only 400 businesses within the residential construction industry recognized by GuildQuality for consistently delivering superior customer care.

In determining which businesses received the 2021 Guildmaster Award, GuildQuality reviewed thousands of survey responses submitted by customers of Guildmaster candidates and considered two primary metrics for each candidate: the percentage of customers stating they would recommend the business to a friend and the percentage of customers who responded.

Our clients wanted to update their kitchen, but they were also dissatisfied with the overall layout of their first floor living space. They wanted a larger laundry room, a more open/eat-in kitchen, a larger formal dining room to accommodate all their dining room furniture, better views of and access to the back yard and a more efficient and better looking home office. They believed they needed an addition to accomplish this, but we reconfigured their existing footprint to create all the spaces to meet their needs. They wanted their renewed home to be practical, livable, and more comfortable. We were able to achieve this within their existing footprint and budget

This is the 25th year in a row that we have won a CotY Award, but the true measure of our success is having happy clients that often work with us for their second and third renovation projects.

This award-winning interior renovation project involved a renovation of a traditional 1960’s Brick rambler. This couple wanted their house to better meet their current needs AND allow them to “age in place”.

As part of a complete whole house renovation, this kitchen was carefully designed for the homeowners who love to cook, bake and entertain.  Since the home was being gutted, the kitchen design could start with a clean slate. The kitchen design is perfect for this family where the wife is the primary cook and the husband the “clean up guy”. The wife has a work triangle between the refrigerator and the stove and ovens, complete with prep sink and in-cabinet trash can. A pull out spice rack and cabinet for cooling oils make food prep easy.

Kitchen Remodeling & Addition in Mclean, Virginia –

When the homeowner first contacted us, it was to create a new covered front entry way to accommodate a family friendly foyer and add a screened porch off the kitchen.  However, when we started to do our design analysis of needs, lifestyle, etc. it became clear they needed more comprehensive renovation to make the house what they wanted. Unfortunately, within the past five years, the client had a family room addition and cosmetic kitchen facelift done, but they were not happy with the results once the project was finished. It appears that the former designer did not really do a needs analysis to help them see that the new space would create bottlenecks in the house flow. For instance, they love to grill. So, the designer had a little deck built off the new family room that had the grill on it. But to access the deck, the homeowner needed to go through the entire house to get to it. As a result, they never grilled. Since they intended for this to be home for the rest of their lives, we designed a holistic plan to make the house work better for them. A home addition was designed and built to allow for better circulation; expanding and renovating the kitchen space, adding a sun room with screened porch beneath; and repurposing several rooms in the home. >read more

A screened porch was the perfect functional solution for them, but they wanted this new outdoor room to transition well from their traditional colonial home.
