This client’s “before” kitchen was nice, but it was the former owner’s taste. The clients really wanted the kitchen to reflect their style and they also wanted to solve some functional issues. There were three columns blocking views and dividing the spaces, so we engineered a solution to remove them and also open the wall between the Kitchen and Sunroom. Also, the client wanted to be able to sit at the island and watch the morning news. Now they can comfortably perch at the island and push a button and their TV emerges from a walnut countertop for ultimate convenience.

Before: Columns created a division in the rooms. The low bulkhead between the kitchen and sunroom blocked the view of the beautiful tray ceiling in the sunroom.
After: By raising the low bulkhead and removing the columns, the space is more open, allows more natural light into the kitchen and has the refreshed style the homeowner wanted.
This before view demonstrates the closed off nature of the former space.

This after view shows how open the new kitchen is to both the family room and the sunroom. New display cases allow the homeowner to display her Quimper pottery collection.
After: View from Family Room is so much more inviting. The client loves the coffered ceiling in the family room. So, to complement it, we continued the cabinet crown detail around the entire perimeter of the kitchen.
The client was ready for a new aesthetic and more functionality.
After: The color palette was chosen to compliment the client’s collection of Quimper pottery. The island has multiple functionalities. It has plenty of space for food preparation including the new prep sink; and still has loads of space for dining or visiting with the chef.
The before beverage center was too small and when in use, blocked the entrance to the kitchen.
The new Uline beverage center is conveniently located closer to the entertaining area. The walnut counter doubles as an informal serving area.
The new beverage center has twice the capacity as the old one. A wine refrigerator and separate “other” beverage refrigerator adds functionality.
The homeowner wanted to totally change the style of the backsplash.
The waterjet cut marble mosaic backsplash pulls out all the different shades of blue. The new Thermador six-burner cook top gives the chefs all the cooking power they wanted.
We painted the ceiling in the kitchen yellow to complement the pottery in the display areas and also tie into the family room palette. The cabinet front Thermador refrigeration under the display case features a 30-inch column refrigerator and an 18-inch column freezer.
The client loves the fresh white color of these Shaker (with bevel) style cabinets. The pull out spice drawer adds convenience and functionality.
Before: The partial wall between the kitchen and sunroom completely blocked the beautiful tray ceiling.
After: The tray ceiling is prominent and the space is so much more open. Venetian Bronze faucet and hardware are a nice contrast to the white Calacatta Verona Quartz counter tops.
The new TV console emerges from the walnut countertop with the push of a button. The TV rotates so that it can be watched from the kitchen or the casual dining room.
The homeowner really likes keeping clutter off the counters and she felt the former kitchen didn’t allow for that well. The counter at the unused desk area became particularly the victim of junk collection.
So, we removed the desk completely…
… and we designed a coffee bar that could be hidden from view when not in use.
In the same area, we created a mail sorting area as well as a hidden cork board and small device storage.
Increasing the light in the kitchen was an objective.
More and better placed recessed lighting helped increase light. Two beautiful glass Cloche chandeliers frame the new island. Under counter lighting was also added. Dimmer switches were added to all lighting.
Adding transoms over the doors to adjacent rooms helped to bring in more natural light.
The client loves the new kitchen. It has met all their needs to be more open, light and reflect their own personal style.
